Savannah

We decided to try something new on this trip to Hilton Head-- a day trip to Savannah, Georgia. Savannah is only a 45 minute drive from Hilton Head and it did not disappoint us. We wanted to get there early to put our names on the list to eat at Paula Deen's restaurant, The Lady and Sons. At 10 AM, the best we could get was a lunch seating at 3 PM! Don't worry we took it.
To kill time before getting to eat there, we walked around Savannah. There are beautiful squares and green spaces every couple of blocks.
And of course there are gorgeous old homes, which were fun to look at and photograph.
We walked along River Street, which is full of little shops and restaurants. It was hot, but we stayed well hydrated, and Cate rode in her wagon.
Right before lunch, we drove around the city in the air-conditioning of the car so that Cate could take a little nap. Every so often we would find a place to park for a few minutes so that some of us could get out (while one person stayed in the car with Cate) to see more of the city. This is Chippewa Square where part of Forrest Gump was filmed (the scenes of him at the bus stop). The bench is no longer there as it was getting worn out by tourists, and the park was in a clean-up state, but it was still fun to see.
We also stopped at the Savannah College of Art and Design. One of the girls I used to babysit as a pre-schooler is now a student there. Weird. At their campus store (the one that sells things made by the students and local artists, not the one that sells books and supplies), I found the cutest diaper bag. It's made of blue canvas and vintage fabric...and yes, we did need a new one. Our other diaper bag is small and holds just enough for one kid. And while Cate will hopefully not over lap Baby B by much in the diaper department, there's still a sippy cup for her, extra clothes, and toys that are nice to have on hand. I couldn't pass up a sale either-- $65 down from $250.Finally it was off to eat at Paula Deen's. The food was absolutely delicious. I'm pretty sure we waddled back to our car.
Needless to say, we didn't really eat much the rest of the day. We loved Savannah and will have to visit for a day again when we are Hilton Head.
